The perfect proposal guide to Newcastle Upon Tyne

Its no surprise if youre looking to pop the question in Newcastle after all, it was voted the best place to visit in 2018 by Rough Guide.

The perfect proposal guide to Newcastle Upon Tyne

With so many breath-taking spots, how do you choose one to propose? Stepping away from the more traditional spots, Angelic Diamonds, retailer of halo engagement rings based in Newcastle, tells us its top spots that you might not have considered:

Wylam Brewery, Palace of Arts

Take a 30-minute walk away from Newcastle Upon Tyne’s city centre, and you’ll find Wylam Brewery, which is held in the Palace of Arts, Exhibition Park. Next to the Brewery sits the Brewery Tap, which is open Thursday to Sundays. Also, the Grand Hall hosts live music and food festivals on a regular basis — check out the upcoming events here. Take a romantic stroll from the entrance of the park up to the venue before popping the question in front of the lake — a perfect setting when it is lit up.

Jesmond Dene Waterfall

Located next to Osborne Road (the perfect place for a bottle of bubbly and endless drinks) is Jesmond Dene, which is home to a small pet’s corner, green areas ideal for picnics and approximately a two-mile walking path, although this depends on if you venture off track. For a romantic proposal spot, why not set up a picnic blanket in front of the waterfall situated between the trees and ask your other half to marry you?

Hotel du Vin

Situated away from the city centre on the banks of the River Tyne, you’ll find a luxury boutique hotel named Hotel du Vin. Surrounded by incredible, picturesque views of the quayside and a fine dining experience in an array of restaurants, if you’re looking for somewhere extra special to pop the question — it’s here. Then, head upstairs to your roll top bath for a night of wedding planning.

Planetarium, Life Centre

If you want to see space films and visuals, and experience real-time space shows in high-definition, then head over to the North’s biggest planetarium. The Life Science Centre is the perfect place to star gaze without sitting out in the cold. Ask your other half to be with you forever under the night-sky.

BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art

The BALTIC is a former flour mill that’s now home to ever-changing modern art collections. Offering another unmissable view of the Quayside, head to Level five for an indoor viewing box of the Millennium Bridge and the Sage, or to Level four for panoramic views from a different angle. Ask the special question with one of the best views of Newcastle behind you, and if you feel like treating yourselves after, head up to SIX restaurant on the top floor.

House of Tides

Situated in a 16th century building on the city’s quayside, House of Tides is a fine dining restaurant that offers a tasting menu which changes around the year. If you and your partner are fans of good food, where better to propose than in Newcastle’s only 1-star Michelin restaurant? For something extra, choose the wine pairing and truly treat your palette.

The Treehouse Restaurant, Alnwick

Alnwick Castles has a whole bunch of fascinating things to offer. Perhaps your other half is a huge Harry Potter fan and would love to be proposed to near Hogwarts, or they’re a fan of fun rope bridges and magical dining experiences. After exploring Alnwick Castle and its beautiful gardens, head over to The Treehouse Restaurant to pop the question.

St James’ Park

Cheer on the home team with your partner before dropping to one knee at half time. For a proposal that’s atmospheric and full of life, ask your loved one to marry you in Newcastle’s football stadium, St James’ Park.

Sycamore Gap

Situated in Henshaw, is Sycamore Gap, which was given the award for England’s ‘Tree of the Year’ in the Woodland Trust’s annual contest. The iconic tree is a picturesque setting for a proposal and is surrounded by a scenic walking trail.

Holy Island of Lindisfarne

A perfect setting for a proposal is Holy Island, a picturesque island a few miles from Northumberalnd. Although it is quite far from the city centre, the priory and excellent views all make it worth while. Make sure you check the table for tide crossing times.

"With a blend of lively nightlife, illuminated views of the River Tyne and easy access to the coast, its a city that has it all."
